Hotot is one of the better twitter clients on linux that also supports status.net. As a status.net client it can be used for the great decentralized social network Friendica. This short tutorial will show you how to do it:
First you need to install Hotot. There are several ways to get it. On Ubuntu/Debian you can use
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hotot-team
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hotot
Open Hotot and create a new profile by entering your username, clicking on the identi.ca icon and the arrow on the right afterwards.
Click on Preferences:
Click on Advanced:
Replace the URL in the API Setting section with the URL of the friendica server you are using (snarl.de in this example). Click Back afterwards.
Log into your profile by entering your user name and password and clicking on the arrow.
That’s it! Enjoy friendica with Hotot!
Note: Hotot is a discontinued project. But as there are not many good status.net clients around for linux, it is still a good choice. Hopefully some fine people will pick this project up and develop it further. If you are thinking about that, why not simply fork the hotot github repository and do it!?
